With the desire to soften the existing division between the public and private spaces of this 1980’s home, we removed part of the staircase wall and replaced it with a screen of warm, Walnut slats. Bringing function to the small remaining wall space of the dining area, a wall-mounted credenza with bypass doors provides storage for platters, bottles, and other entertaining needs. Dynamism and further softening of the spatial separation is heightened as the credenza pierces the screen, turning and morphing into a single stair tread and riser.
